Summary
This section starts off by Will getting checked into the Psychiatric Institute of Washington. Then Wills mother and a lot of his family get to finally take a break with watching him 24/7. Will's mother wanted to have a heart-to-heart with will because when she was younger she was also diagnosed with clinical depression. Will's mother says that Will is so grown-up for his age, but he still has awhile to go and more to learn. they talk about how Will's mother used to want to kill herself a lot but she never did because of will and his brother. Will's mother says that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Will goes on to say that if he saw the light he would not be depressed. His mother thinks to herself saying that he is right and he has good insight.
Quote
"She's been diagnosed bipolar and she cuts herself" (Griffith 70).
Reaction
My reaction to this was "OMG!" I reacted like this because I know a girl that cut(s) herself. She was not diagnosed bipolar though. It scared me when I see people who do and it makes me sad. It makes me wonder why they do that and why they think it will help with anything. This connects to rthe book because the bankers daughter was bipolar and cut herself and Will's mother and the banker spent some time talking about this because Will's mother was writing a book about teen depression and teen suicide.
