The Lovely Bones (113-210)

Summary
In this section Susie talks about how the police think her father is crazy because of persistent phone calls.  Also how he has an obsession with his neighbor.  After a while she was talking about how her sister was becoming more responsible and how her father was nowhere to be found.  They assumed that he was going after her killer, Mr. Harvey, all by himself.  Her mother told Lindsey that she was not able to go and look for her father.  Lindsey told their brother, Buckley, that he could sleep in her bed with her that night.  When the police finally called they said that he was hit with his own baseball bat.  Then they went to the hospital.  Lindsey returned to junior high in the fall of 1974. She was known as the murdered girls sister, and the child of a crackpot, nutcase, and the looney-tunes. This hurt her even more later on.

Quote
"We haven't talked about your sister in awhile" (Sebold 163).

Reaction
My reaction to this quote was mixed.  I always thought that people would want to talk about those types of things instead of bottling up those feelings.  But I realized that people have different ways of coping with things.  I thought that the father would want to talk to the daughter about the sisters death and him to tell her it's okay to talk about those things if it makes her feel better.

The Lovely Bones (5-112)

Summary
In the first section of theis book there is a girl named Susie. She was murdered on December 6, 1973. She white had mousy brown hair. She was part of the Chem and Chess club. Susie then goes on to tell us how it was snowing on the day she was murdered, and how she was taking a short cut through the cornfields to get home.  she remembers how it was harder to walk because of the broke corn stalks and how it was dark out because the days are shorter in the winter.  Mr. Harvey did not want her to leave, and she was starting to worry that she would not be able to leave.  Then he fought her to the ground and raped her.  All she remembered was yelling please stop or stop please.  She remembers him pressing his lips up against hers and how he was reaching up underneath her shirt.  Then how he ripped her pants off and how he gagged ehr with her hat.  Then she could not remember anything other then crying.  When he was done he told her to tell her that she loved him and he then murdered her.
Quote
"The end came anyway" (Sebold 15).

Reaction
My reaction to this was scared.  This is because if you knew that your life was coming to an end you would be scared too probably.  I just wonder why she did not keep fighting.  I wonder what would happen if she kept fighting and got away if he would go to jail for what he did or kill her the same anyways.  It scared me because if I knew my life was going to end very soon I would fight till the end.
